Fright

Scary movies, scaring each other as we walk down the hallways, jumping out from behind doors, telling scary stories and hiding under the blankets as we listen.
All of these things happen at our home on a regular basis.
Not just in the month of October.
But doing spooky things in October helps amp up the fearsome vibes around here.
We've been trying to watch classic horror films this month.
Some with the girls...Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Birds, Beetlejuice.
Some without the girls...The Shining and The Conjuring.

Chad and I watched The Shining the other night and while everyone gleams about Nicholson's stellar performance, I was in awe of Shelley Duvall.
She must have been exhausted after playing that roll.
To be in a constant state of fear and snotty tears for most of the film...
Wore.
Me.
Out.

I think Zoe is ready to step up the game and see some really scary stuff.
I don't know if she's ready for night time scary movies, though.
The girls watched Cujo last year in the daytime on a TV channel that had commercials.
They did fine.
But nighttime fright fests, I don't know.

We like to read the stories in these books.

Some have moments where you can SCREAM at an appropriate time to scare the bajeebers out of everyone.
Those are my favorite.
Gigi likes to listen to the stories then retell them as best her memory serves.
She starts talking slower, dragging the story out, scaring herself in the process, then BOO!

Some people are very apprehensive about scary stuff.
Be it movies, books, or even fearsome costumes.
Am I going to scar my child?
Make him/her too fearful of things?
You are the best judge of that.
We eat up scary stuff here.
We know we aren't hurting our kids by introducing spooky things in their lives.
Zoe has fought the ultimate spook and beat it down with the force of a zombie killer taking on a herd of undead villagers.
Bring it on!

  1. I used to watch Alfred Hitchcock movies with Aunt Jeanne. The Birds still scares the crap out of me. Especially if one hits my car, a window near me, or just squawks at me. Nick freaked out on Gremlins when he woke up in the middle of the night and saw the red lights on the alarm clock. Uncle Dave walked out of Jaws and never came back. I just hate what I call the 'hack and sack' where they chop people up. Yuck, give me suspense to scare me, not some dismembered body part.

    1. I'm not a fan of the slasher films too much either. Saw, Hostel, no thanks. I really liked The Conjuring, kept me wondering! It's fun to be scared. Gigi didn't think The Birds was scary, it takes a lot to scare kids these days I guess! LOL!
